Child’s Corner Chair

In 1944 Catherine Faucon, daughter of China Trade Captain Edward H. Faucon, donated this child’s corner chair to The Milton Historical Society. The seat of this primitive chair is 10½ inches high, by 14 inches deep by up to 15 inches wide. Its odd shape is in part dictated by the grain of the thick burl from which the seat was cut.

Captain Faucon was immortalized by Richard Henry Dana in his book Two years before the Mast, about his 1835 voyage from Boston to California.
