Milton Hospital
Blue Hills Observatory

For over 100 years Milton Hospital has been committed to improving health. The roots of this tradition began in a small convalescent home that was established in the late 19th century. In 1904, the Cunningham Foundation Trustees offered the mansion of late Edward Cunningham as a new site for the home, on the condition that part of the facility function as a hospital. Milton Hospital was officially incorporated opening with just nine beds. In 1944, the current site of Milton Hospital on Highland Street was purchased from the Pierce Estate. Following the war the modern hospital building shown, designed by Joseph Daniels Leland of the Boston architectural firm of Leland & Larson, opened in 1950.
