Crehore House at 1144 Brush Hill Road
In the mid-19th century, Diana and John Crehore kept an extensive dairy farm in the western section of town near Paul's Bridge. There they commercially raised the first strawberries to be sold at market, and Mrs. Crehore experimented with the hybridization of a seed of the Catawba grape. The new hybrid she created was called the "Diana" and became so important that it was exhibited at the weekly displays at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society's rooms in Boston.
You can read more about the Crehores and the Diana grape in a new addition to our "Milton Sampler." The article originally appeared in our newsletter, so join us and learn more about the history all around you!
