Milton Convalescent Home
Milton Convalescent Home

Built by Edward and Frances Cary Cunningham, the mansion was set on a vast estate that straddled both sides of Edge Hill Road. A large stone and granite house with Stick style detailing, it was sold in 1904 to trustees of the Cunningham Estate, created by the late Mary Abbot Forbes Cunningham (aunt of Edward Cunningham) to benefit the people of Milton. The trustees allowed the mansion to be used as the Milton Convalescent Home, later to become Milton Hospital, and the main barn was refurbished as a dance hall and movie theatre. The grounds had a swimming pool, baseball fields and tot play areas laid out, with large amounts of land remaining undeveloped and forested. The former Cunningham Mansion was demolished after the present Milton Hospital was built in 1950.
