June 19: The Massachusetts Historical Commission leans toward Teele's 1887 chronology of the house's evolution in nominating the house for the National Register of Historic Places: "...the two parts of the Suffolk Resolves House: on the left (looking at the facade from Canton Avenue) is the earlier portion, constructed about 1760; to the right is the addition to the structure made by Vose in 1773." This chronology also matches notes left at the Massachusetts Historical Society by William Morris Hunt II, the house's restoration architect, and prevails online today. |
